»By 2020, DB Group wants to be among the ten leading companies on the German labor market, to compete for the best specialists.«

On the way to becoming one of the best employers

Committed employees with digital expertise can make a key contribution to this. We are working to improve employer attractiveness, increase employee satisfaction and to ensure demographic preparedness by new hires and qualifications. To achieve these targets, we have set ourselves the following requirements:

DB Group seeks to make progress and shape the future with and for its employees.

Susanne Küspert
Human Resources Strategy and Diversity

Competitiveness, operational excellence, high performance, digital transformation, demographic change, skilled employee shortage – these are buzzwords that you read every day. There are more than 300,000 people at DB Group, who face the reality of these buzzwords on a daily basis. We want to support these people – in all their diversity – and to create good working conditions for them, so that they will still want to do their jobs tomorrow with the same passion as today.«

Employee communication
enters the digital world#DIGITALIZATION

DB Planet – the social intranet of DB Group
Since April 4, 2017, DB Group has been networking its employees. DB Planet enables real-time communication and sharing of information and digital networking within DB Group. Employees can join in using their business or private smartphone, tablet or notebook – regardless of location, end device or place of work. DB Planet combines possibilities for direct exchanges and networking with information and integration through editorial content.

Digitalization and new technologies are changing the way we work. They offer new possibilities for communication and cooperation. We want to seize upon these opportunities. In 2017, tablets were given to those who were in their first year of training in the typical railway professions as dispatcher, train driver and transport services agent for the first time.

A visit to DB Planet is part of my daily routine. I want to keep up to date about what is going on in DB Group and what’s on the minds of other employees, and to connect with them – just like being part of a big family.”«

new employees were hired in just one week during Germany’s biggest job interview.

Germany’s biggest job interview
In November, DB Group organized a recruitment drive for experienced skilled workers, career changers and trainees. In the space of seven days, over 6,000 interviews were held in seven cities (Hamburg, Munich, Nuremberg, Cologne, Berlin, Mannheim and Frankfurt am Main). Interested applicants had the opportunity to find out more and to introduce themselves between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. each day. As a general rule, the candidates received a decision regarding their application on the spot.

“Career specs” with virtual reality
Interested applicants can dive into the everyday world of various professions and places of work using virtual reality glasses and 360-degree video. At job fairs, applicants can learn to recognize DB Group as a modern employer with diverse job profiles, and take a direct look behind the scenes.

Reality instead of gloss#RECRUITING

New employer branding campagne launched
Our new employer branding campagne was launched in April 2017. Under the slogan, “Welcome, you are one of us,” DB Group recruits thousands of new employees annually. DB Group presents an honest picture of itself: good, but not perfect. The promotional videos show a group that’s on the upswing, with employees who love their jobs, but sometimes have to deal with difficult situations. For example, the camera pans over display panels with the message “train canceled.” This approach is the realization of the quality program Railway of the Future for talent acquisition. We are looking for new colleagues who can work with us to gradually make DB Group more reliable and friendly.

Kerstin Wagner
Head of Talent Acquisition

With the authenticity and honesty of our employer image, we have surprised the market and appear to have struck a chord. The number of applications has increased dramatically. Candidates value our openness as well as the dynamic that is radiated by DB Group. At DB Group, you can literally make a difference and shape the future.«

New wage policy
approaches

Rolf Nördershäuser
Train driver at DB Cargo

I am 60 years old, and would like to retire two years earlier than the statutory age. That is why I am in favor of the pay increase.«

Innovative option for payment increase
As a result of the collective bargaining round in 2016/2017, more than 130,000 employees of DB Group were able to personally decide on how the second stage of the pay increase from 2018 onward should be used – in the form of a 2.6% salary increase, the reduction of weekly working hours, or six additional days of holidays.

Advantages for the labor market
With the selection model, DB Group has entered new collective bargaining territory and caused a sensation through- out Germany. In the meantime, it has been extended to non-pay-scale employees and managerial staff in DB Group. This does DB Group many favors when it comes to talent acquisition.

Flexibility of employment conditions
DB Group has extensive experience in the implementation of the selection model with flexible working hours models. As an employer, DB Group supports its employees in their private and professional lives – regardless of whether it is a private matter such as looking after small children or caring for older people, or an official commitment, or a hobby.

Cindy Pohl
Onboard service trainer at DB Long-Distance

The choice was easy: I wanted additional holiday so that I could spend more time with my two children.«
