Reducing energy needs in stations, facilities and buildings
The more than 5,000 stations and over 2,000 sites worldwide operated by DB Schenker account for about 8% of DB Group’s total energy demand. In order to identify savings potential and measure energy consumption over the long term, energy audits were carried out in previous years in order to implement the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in all of DB Group’s approximately 700 subsidiaries. DB Energie GmbH, DB Regio AG, S-Bahn Berlin GmbH and S-Bahn Hamburg GmbH, DB Fernverkehr AG and DB Station&Service AG each introduced an energy management system (EnMS)No. 78 in the previous year. This contributed to the 7% drop in stationary power consumption compared to the previous year. In DB Netze Stations, we managed to lower absolute primary energy consumption by 17% in comparison to 2010 by the end of 2017. To this end, more than 2,000 display cases and directional guidance systems were refitted, changing them from conventional fluorescent lamp systems to LED technologyNo. 50. LED lighting systems are also used exclusively in railway station lighting for new facilities, and existing systems are being successively refitted. Examples include the conversion of the platform lighting systems in Rostock, Rosenheim, Berlin-Spandau and Potsdam.
