Digital technologies not only make it possible to further develop the integrated rail system, but also pave the way for new business models. Examples of progress made during the year under review in developing and testing new products, features, processes and services are presented below.
Pioneer in digital ticket sales
With a share of about 40%, online and mobile sales is the most important sales channel for our passenger transport in Germany. In March 2017 alone, passengers booked just under 3.5 million online tickets. In 2016, tickets and reservations as well as other tourist services such as travel sold via bahn.de totaled almost € 2.5 billion. The DB Navigator app is an indispensable part of the sales channel mix. In 2017, nearly 15 million tickets were booked on mobile devices, an increase of 47% in comparison with the previous year. In 2017, one in every 20 tickets was booked using DB Navigator.
